“Generating the Spirit of ASEAN”

One sharing, one caring, one community, one vision

The spirit of ASEAN is embodied in the concept of the ASEAN Community. The aim of the ASEAN Community is to ensure durable peace, stability, and shared prosperity in the region. In seeking to build an ASEAN Community, the ASEAN Leaders recognized that interdependence and cooperation would be a way of life in Southeast Asia. According to ASEAN’s philosophy, prosperity is to be shared.

Over the last decade, the countries of Southeast Asia have enjoyed rapid economic growth but have also lived through a financial crisis that plunged many into poverty. Economic competition has become more intense. However, erecting barriers and looking inwards is not the way to face the force of globalization. The Southeast Asian countries need to look outwards and build bridges and partnerships. And like the founding members of ASEAN understood back in 1967, the ten countries are better off standing together than alone.

Realizing the aim of ASEAN to integrate the region’s economies by the year of 2015, as undergraduate students of economics and business, we believe in the importance of building a network between other students is crucial. Unfortunately, there is no association that serves as a forum for ASEAN undergraduate economics and business students to contribute to the ASEAN itself. Therefore, students of Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia propose to carry out the 2nd Economics and Business Student Summit (EBS Summit) as the foundation for the establishment of ASEAN Economics and Business Student Network.
